Event

Once again this year, the final of Germany's only business plan competition for the healthcare sector took place at BioCampus Cologne.

More than thirty teams from various federal states had registered to participate in the nationwide competition for start-ups from the medical and healthcare industries.

This year's winners AXOLOTL German Med&HealthBusiness Plan Competition:

The first place endowed with 4,000€ went to Mermaid Bio. The company has set itself the task of discovering and developing breakthrough antibodies for intracellular targets. Mermaid Bio combines single-domain antibodies (nanobodies) with advances in drug delivery (using mRNA/LNP systems) to create a proprietary platform that is able to produce breakthrough drugs.

Livstem Occupied the second place combined with €3,000 in prize money donated by NRW.Bank. Livstem is developing a safe and efficient ex vivo gene therapy approach for hereditary childhood liver diseases such as ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency. The aim is to enable patients to live largely symptom-free lives through therapy that only needs to be used once and thus avoid liver transplantation. The unique selling point is the production of the patient's own liver stem cells from biopsy material, which are implanted back minimally invasively after gene therapy has been carried out.

Third place went to Roowalk Mobility combined with prize money of 1,000€ from the High-Tech Gründerfond. The company is developing a novel and electrically powered walking aid that allows users to stand upright hands-free, pain-free and less strenuous walking and significantly expanded range of motion — the next generation of mobility solutions. Roowalk was also founded with the special price honored for spin-offs from university and clinical research by Goldberg Consult und Support GmbH in the amount of 1,000€.

The special price for the best Digitalization start-up, which is awarded prize money of 2,000€ by M & P Unternehmensberatung GmbH, went to TRICLI. TRICLI brings research and medical care closer together. Patients and clinical trials are matched just like on a dating app. This opens up innovative treatment options for current and future patients. With TRICLI, doctors can find the right study for patients at any time and smartly.

The MedECON Ruhr special price in the amount of 1,000€ went to Odacova. The young company is developing an app for personalized nutrition planning that is not only aimed at vegans and expectant vegans and guarantees coverage of micro and macronutrients.

The wide range of business concepts in the AXOLOTL GermanMed & Health Business Plan Competition clearly reflects the various trends in the medical and healthcare sector in 2022.

We congratulate all participants and winners and are already looking forward to the next final in 2023 here at BioCampus Cologne.
